Green Machinery Exports Surge 21.7%(August 19)
Green Production: Construction Machinery Sells Well Overseas
On August 12, People's Daily published an article on page 2 titled "From Selling Equipment to Selling Electrification Solutions, to Providing Intelligent Pathways—Green Production: Construction Machinery Sells Well Overseas." Using Liugong as a representative case, the article reveals how Chinese construction machinery, leveraging leading electrification technology, a complete industrial chain, and comprehensive solutions, has not only helped overseas mines achieve a 50% cost reduction but also driven a 21.7% increase in export value in the first half of the year—a globalization breakthrough.
In the first half of the year, China's construction machinery export value grew 21.7% year-on-year.
Excavating, loading, transporting, handling... at a mine in Vietnam, over 120 pieces of construction machinery operate in orderly fashion, busy yet disciplined.
Green has become the most distinctive feature of this mine. All 120-plus pieces of equipment—from excavators, loaders, and bulldozers to mining trucks—are fully electrified.
"Using Chinese electric construction machinery, our per-ton mining cost has dropped by 50% directly," the mine manager could not conceal his excitement.
This year, driven by the international energy crisis and accelerating green transformation, building "green mines" has become an industry consensus.
"In the field of electrification, Chinese construction machinery holds a globally leading position. Nearly all internationally leading companies in the mining industry have established procurement centers in China," said Li Kailiang, Deputy Chief Engineer and Business Director of the International Business Division of Guangxi Liugong Machinery Co., Ltd.
Hardcore Equipment
For the high-temperature, high-humidity power consumption conditions of Vietnamese mines, Liugong's R&D team "tailor-made" excavators and loaders equipped with large-capacity, high-reliability dedicated battery systems. With flash-charging technology, a full charge takes just 45 minutes, with a single-charge range of 8 to 10 hours—enough to cover a complete shift.
Mature Supply Chain
Some overseas markets require monitoring of every battery from deployment to retirement: registration upon activation, and manufacturer responsibility for recycling upon retirement. "Relying on China's comprehensive new energy industrial chain, Chinese companies have mature experience in full-lifecycle battery management and can provide complete services to overseas clients," Li Kailiang said.
Comprehensive Solutions
Mines are mostly located in remote areas with weak public power grids. Chinese construction machinery companies provide integrated solutions, building a "PV + energy storage + charging + mobile power supply" system around the mine to create an integrated source-grid-load-storage green microgrid. This enables electric equipment to achieve "power available, power usable" even in remote mining areas without grid access.
"Once mine production stops, the losses are enormous. Compared to foreign companies, we can integrate premium domestic resources and provide complete solutions to ensure smooth implementation of electrification plans," Li Kailiang added.
Moreover, the Chinese construction machinery industry is also packaging intelligent "soft power" for overseas export. Domestically mature mine management systems and fleet dispatching systems are deeply integrated with hardware, helping overseas mines transition from "human wave tactics" to "smart brain" operations.
Tangible returns are the strongest driving force for overseas enterprises to continue placing orders. Energy consumption typically accounts for 40% to 50% of mining operating costs, while electric construction machinery consumes only one-third the energy of fuel-powered equipment. Additionally, electrification greatly simplifies the transmission system, substantially reducing machinery maintenance and servicing costs.
For multinational mining companies, Chinese construction machinery is not only "green to use" but "green from birth."
At the Liugong Excavator Smart Factory, products ranging from 13 to 200 tons are produced on a flexible, mixed-model line. AI vision systems inspect assembly deviations in real time. From materials to finished products, every data node is traceable. In March this year, the factory produced over 1,500 excavators in a single month, a 77.5% year-on-year increase and a historic high.
"Through smart factory construction, we extensively use green electricity in the production process, which directly helps downstream clients achieve high scores in ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) assessments," Li Kailiang said. In the first half of the year, Liugong's electric construction machinery exports performed impressively.
Data shows that China has become the world's largest producer and seller of construction machinery. From 2020 to 2025, the industry's export scale achieved nearly threefold growth.
Beyond "selling equipment" and "selling electrification solutions," Chinese construction machinery companies are now also providing intelligent pathways—"selling intelligence." "This year, our unmanned loaders will be deployed in the UK and Australia, bringing safer and more efficient intelligent construction experiences to clients," Li Kailiang said.
The unmanned electric rigid-frame wide-body truck supports full-scenario operations, maintaining stable autonomous driving even in rain, fog, and dust conditions with visibility of only 20 meters. The newly upgraded 5G remote-control driving technology can precisely operate 135-ton super-large excavators from afar.
According to the China Construction Machinery Association: in the first half of the year, China's construction machinery export value reached 34.373 billion USD, up 21.7% year-on-year. Of this, exports to the EU reached 3.626 billion USD (up 28.9%); exports to ASEAN reached 5.561 billion USD (up 23.6%); and exports to Belt and Road partner countries and regions totaled 14.723 billion USD, accounting for 42.83% of total exports (up 9.13%). The machinery industry, represented by construction machinery, completed goods trade exports of 559.33 billion USD, up 20% year-on-year.
