The Hongqiao International Open Hub has added RMB 1 trillion in economic output over the past five years.
Shanghai, March 23 (Xinhua) (Reporter Zhou Rui) The reporter learned from the Shanghai Municipal Government press conference held on the 23rd that in the five years since the implementation of the "Overall Plan for the Construction of the Hongqiao International Open Hub," the GDP of the Hongqiao International Open Hub's "one core and two belts" has achieved a trillion-yuan leap, growing from 2.3 trillion yuan in 2020 to 3.3 trillion yuan in 2025, with economic density reaching 4.9 times the average level of the Yangtze River Delta.
In February 2021, the State Council approved the "Overall Plan for the Construction of the Hongqiao International Open Hub." According to the overall plan, the Hongqiao International Open Hub covers 14 districts and counties in Shanghai, Jiangsu, and Zhejiang. In terms of layout, it takes the Shanghai Hongqiao International Central Business District as the core, including the northward expansion belt extending to Suzhou, Jiangsu, and the southward expansion belt extending to Jiaxing, Zhejiang, with a total area of 7,000 square kilometers.
Chen Guozhong, Deputy Director of the Shanghai Development and Reform Commission, said that over the past five years, the development goal of "basically completing the Hongqiao International Open Hub" has been achieved as scheduled. Using 2020 as the base year, the Hongqiao Development Index has steadily risen to 133.4 by 2025. Over the past five years, nearly 1,100 national-level "specialized, refined, and new" small giant enterprises have been newly added, and nearly 40,000 high-tech enterprises have been newly added.
The Hongqiao International Central Business District is the "one core" of the functional layout of the Hongqiao International Open Hub. "Over the past five years, the main economic indicators of the Hongqiao International Central Business District have nearly doubled, with the regional GDP surpassing the 200 billion yuan mark, and the number of legal entities growing from 49,000 to nearly 100,000," said Kong Fuan, Party Secretary and Executive Deputy Director of the Management Committee of the Hongqiao International Central Business District. Accompanied by the continuous gathering of global production factors, the actual population will increase by more than 88,000 by 2025.
It is worth noting that through the integration of government services, public services, and professional services, Hongqiao has innovatively launched three lists of "policies, services, and overseas activities," building regional cooperation platforms such as the "Huishang Overseas Service Center" and the "Sushang Overseas Hongqiao Salon," and carrying out strategic cooperation with the Zhejiang Chamber of Commerce to create the first stop for Yangtze River Delta enterprises to "go global" services.
Data shows that in 2025, the Hongqiao International Central Business District will host 382 overseas activities, providing docking services for enterprises nearly 9,000 times, with enterprises from the Yangtze River Delta outside Shanghai accounting for 44%.
