Cargo throughput on the China-Laos Railway has exceeded 80 million tonnes, fully demonstrating the vitality of this “golden corridor.”
On March 25, it was learned from China Railway Kunming Group that in the morning, with an international freight train of the China-Laos Railway fully loaded with goods departing from the Kunming Container Center Station in Yunnan towards Vientiane, Laos, it marked that the freight transport of the China-Laos Railway officially exceeded 80 million tons, with cross-border freight transport exceeding 18 million tons, effectively promoting regional economic development.
It is understood that since the opening and operation of the China-Laos Railway, a total of 71,000 freight trains have been operated along the entire line, with the number of cross-border freight trains increasing from 2 trains per day at the beginning of the opening to a maximum of 23 trains, and the train traction tonnage increasing from 2,000 tons to 2,800 tons, making it a "golden corridor" for "connectivity" between China and ASEAN.
The China Railway Kunming Bureau targets market demand by operating the China-Laos Railway "Lancang-Mekong Express" international freight train, and innovatively launches a series of international freight train products such as "Lancang-Mekong Express + China-Europe Train", "Shanghai-Yunnan · Lancang-Mekong Line", "Beijing-Yunnan · Lancang-Mekong Line", and "Kunming Inland Port" rail-sea combined transport. Currently, there are 2 scheduled Central Asia train routes with a speed of 120 km/h and 6 routes with a speed of 80 km/h, promoting cross-regional industrial chain connection and steadily increasing cross-border freight volume. As of now, the China-Laos Railway international freight trains have operated over 20,000 trains in total.
Since the opening of the China-Laos Railway, the volume of freight transported has increased year by year, with the China-Laos Railway transporting 12.47 million tons, 17.81 million tons, 19.64 million tons, and 24.48 million tons respectively, and reaching 5.64 million tons so far this year, showing a year-on-year increasing trend and demonstrating strong development momentum.
Currently, the transportation map of the China-Laos Railway is continuously expanding, covering 19 countries and regions including Laos, Myanmar, Cambodia, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, and Bangladesh. The types of cross-border goods have expanded from more than 10 types such as fertilizers and rubber at the beginning of the opening to more than 3,800 types including chemicals, fresh produce, textiles, electrical, minerals, and agricultural and sideline products, injecting new vitality and adding new momentum to regional prosperity and development.
