Ro-ro passenger transport in Qiongzhou Strait hits new record high
On February 25, the reporter learned from the Pearl River Shipping Administration Bureau of the Ministry of Transport (referred to as the Pearl River Bureau): On February 24 (the eighth day of the lunar new year), the transportation volume reached the peak since the Spring Festival travel rush, with multiple transportation records hitting new highs. Among them, 363 actual sailings were dispatched, once again breaking the record of 358 sailings set on February 7 this year, an increase of over 7% compared to last year's highest single-day record of 338 sailings during the Spring Festival travel rush. 42,000 vehicles were transported, surpassing 40,000 vehicles for two consecutive days, setting a new historical high. 8,098 new energy vehicles were transported, breaking the 8,000-vehicle mark for the first time in history. In the direction of entering the island, 184 actual sailings were dispatched, transporting 21,800 vehicles, both figures setting new historical highs.
In the first 23 days of the 2026 Spring Festival travel rush (February 2 to February 24), the Qiongzhou Strait passenger roll-on/roll-off transportation dispatched a total of 7,213 actual sailings, transporting 3.048 million passengers and 732,000 vehicles, representing year-on-year increases of 11.2%, 15.5%, and 10.5%, respectively.
Next, the Pearl River Bureau will continue to collaborate with relevant management departments and port shipping enterprises to strengthen analysis and judgment, optimize transportation organization, and fully ensure the safe and smooth passenger roll-on/roll-off transportation in the Qiongzhou Strait during the second half of the Spring Festival travel rush.
