3 ships near 0.5 billion! China Merchants Nanyou order stainless steel chemical tanker
On March 4, China Merchants Nanjing Oil Transportation Co., Ltd. announced the order of three 6,600-ton stainless steel chemical tankers.
The announcement shows that Nanjing Yangyang Chemical Transportation and Trade Co., Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of China Merchants Nanyou, will build three 6,600-ton stainless steel chemical tankers at a contract price of 492 million yuan including tax at China Merchants Shipbuilding Industry Group Yangzhou Dingheng Shipyard Co., Ltd., with delivery expected in the first half of 2028.
The three 6,600-ton stainless steel chemical tankers are designed and built according to the "Green Ecological Ship Specification" of the classification society, the latest emission standards issued by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and domestic authorities, using new energy-saving equipment and technology, with conventional fuel main engines and methanol dual-fuel reserved design, and the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) meets the requirements of the third phase standard.
China Merchants Nanyou stated that the choice of shipyard for the construction of the three new 6,600-ton stainless steel chemical tankers was based on extensive market research and a comprehensive consideration of the shipyard's shipbuilding capabilities, availability of slipways, and delivery schedule guarantees, ultimately determined through an invitation to tender process. China Merchants Shipbuilding Yangzhou Dingheng has advanced process equipment and strong technical capabilities, ensuring the quality of the chemical tankers built for the company and their timely delivery. The pricing of this transaction is fair and reasonable, and the shipbuilding project aligns with the company's development strategy and long-term interests, without harming the legitimate rights and interests of the company and all shareholders.
After the implementation of the project, it will help the company optimize the capacity structure of its chemical tanker fleet, improve fleet operation capabilities, enhance core competitiveness, increase customer satisfaction, and consolidate the company's position in the chemical transportation market.
It is understood that China Merchants Nanyou is a specialized company under China Merchants Group engaged in oil tanker transportation and is an important backbone enterprise of Changhang Group engaged in river-sea intermodal transportation. It was established in 1993 and listed on the A-share market in 1997, with its headquarters in Nanjing. China Merchants Shipbuilding Industry Yangzhou Dingheng focuses on the construction of small and medium-sized liquid cargo ships and has accumulated rich innovative technology, independent design, system production, process methods, and efficient management practical experience in the field of small and medium-sized liquid cargo ships. To date, it has delivered nearly a hundred chemical tankers and liquefied gas ships of various types, with six ship types filling gaps in China's shipbuilding industry. The number of orders for small and medium-sized chemical tankers on hand is the highest in the world, and the cumulative number of deliveries in the past decade is the highest in the world.
Excluding the latest orders, Clarkson's data shows that Yangzhou Dingheng currently has a total of 52 ships with 900,000 deadweight tons on order, including 46 chemical tankers, 3 asphalt ships, and 3 LPG ships, with delivery schedules extending to 2029.
