70,000-ton-class large ocean-going vessels can directly reach the Jiangyin Ligang Power Plant terminal.
Recently, the No. 1 Wharf Reconstruction and Expansion Project at Jiangyin Ligang Power Plant successfully passed its completion acceptance. The acceptance committee, composed of units such as transportation, maritime, water conservancy, and development and reform departments, unanimously approved the project, marking the official commissioning of this key energy support project. After completion, the wharf can accommodate large 70,000-ton sea-going vessels entering the Yangtze River, with an annual designed throughput capacity expanded to 7 million tons. This will provide a solid coal supply guarantee for the new 2×1000MW high-efficiency clean coal-fired power generation project in Jiangsu Lidian, strongly supporting the achievement of the "carbon peak and carbon neutrality" goals.

The original wharf was designed for 35,000-ton vessels and could no longer meet the growing supply demand. This reconstruction and expansion involved a complete teardown and rebuild. The new wharf is 282 meters long and 28 meters wide, with a structural design lifespan of 50 years. The berth grade has been upgraded to accommodate 70,000-ton vessels, effectively solving the bottleneck in coal transportation and reserving ample space for the long-term development of the power plant.
The project closely adheres to the requirements of the water source protection zone, integrating the concept of "increasing capacity while reducing pollution, green and intelligent" throughout the design process. The entire coal transportation process is enclosed to control dust, and there is zero discharge of production wastewater. Diesel equipment has been completely eliminated, replaced with new energy loaders, and shore power facilities have been upgraded to reduce pollution at the source. Additionally, 13,000 square meters of riverbank ecological restoration and greening have been completed, achieving harmony between wharf construction and Yangtze River ecological protection. In terms of energy-saving technology, the belt conveyor uses a permanent magnet direct-drive drum, saving approximately 20% more energy compared to conventional devices.
As a key energy supply project, the Jiangyin Maritime Bureau actively participated throughout the process, guiding the construction unit to complete special studies on the impact of navigation channels and navigation conditions, and improving construction operation plans and navigation safety assurance plans during the construction period. A "Pioneer Escort for Power Supply Guarantee" co-construction agreement was signed, and during critical stages such as the roll-on of large ship unloaders, all parties worked together to overcome challenges such as limited water areas, end berthing, ship mooring, and draft adjustments, seizing weather windows to ensure the smooth installation and commissioning of equipment. Comprehensive key monitoring was implemented using CCTV and intelligent maritime systems, strengthening traffic organization and security maintenance in the construction water area, ensuring that the wharf reconstruction and expansion did not interfere with the docking and departure operations of coal transport vessels at the adjacent No. 3 Wharf.
Notably, this project is not only an important enhancement to the regional energy supply system but also a vivid example of upgrading old wharves along the Yangtze River trunk line. It will deeply integrate new technologies such as artificial intelligence, digital twins, and the Internet of Things, enabling dynamic visualization of the entire coal transportation process and intelligent coal transport scheduling. This allows for full traceability of coal from unloading to transportation, significantly improving port operation management and transportation organization efficiency.
