In April 2026, China's manufacturing purchasing managers' index (PMI) was 50.3 per cent, above the threshold for two consecutive months, indicating that the manufacturing sector remained expanding. The index of non-manufacturing business activity fell to 49.4 per cent. The composite PMI output index is 50.1 per cent and overall economic output is still in expansionary territory.
